Residential Garage Doors

Residential Garage DoorsFinding the right garage door for your home can be quite a daunting task with all the different models and materials that you have to choose from. However, knowing what each type of garage door is and what it is used for can make this decision making process a whole lot simpler.

One of the oldest forms of garage doors is the side hinged door. This door is rarely used in a residential setting in today’s world. The doors will swing out; this will result in using much more space to open. Another door that is rarely used today is the up and over garage door. This type of doors has the same problem as the side hinged door. However, this door swings out and up over the vehicle as opposed to out and to the side. The most common garage doors are the roller garage doors. This type of door uses rollers to pull the garage door up and over in smaller sections rather than swinging out or up as the others do. A roller garage door will allow you maximum use of space.

The material the door is made out of can affect the look of the door as well as the price. More traditional doors are often wood. However, many newer doors are often fiberglass or some other form of synthetic. This allows the door to be purchased cheaper, easier cleaning as well as requiring less maintenance. A fiberglass door can be purchased in a variety of colors while a wood door will require paining or staining almost yearly.

When looking at a garage door for your home, keep the type and material of the door you want in mind. Be sure to talk to a garage door professional near you to make sure they understand your needs and desires for your garage project.
