Garage Organization
Keeping a garage organized and clean is not an easy task. This holds especially true with all the decorations, lawn ornaments and lawn care products that many people have today. Below are a few tips on how to keep your garage organized so you can continue to use it for your vehicles rather than a primary storage space.
One of the best things you can do is to organize items by category and by season. There is no reason to have that plastic Santa sitting near the front when it is June. Keeping things organized by category and season allow things to be put back in their position more easily as well as giving you the ability to find things more easily. You will often find during your initial organization that many things you either do not need or shouldn’t be in the garage. This will give you the ability to get rid of items you don’t need and to put items back in their proper position in your home.
If you have a lot of “stuff”, consider adding additional storage space like shelving, cabinets, or a loft. Shelving and cabinets will allow you to organize your stuff much more effectively than previously. The addition of a loft will allow you to store items out of the way while not in season. For example, you can store your Christmas decorations through the spring, summer and fall. Not only does this give you more room in your garage for more items of necessity, but you don’t have to be reminded of that awful white stuff we call snow.
Whether you are looking to just tidy up or totally revamp the way you store items in your garage, consider following the tips mentioned above. If you plan to do a major remodel of your garage, make sure you make your requests heard by your contractor as he may be able to provide you with a few more tips.
