Why start an email, post, memo or letter with an apology. “Sorry to bother you all with more junk mail…but here it is anyways.” If you know what you are sending is not of importance to your readers, why send it at all? Don’t do something just for the sake of doing it. Make it worthwhile to someone. Think, re-read, edit, all the things instilled in us at a young age, follow through with them when it comes to your customers or employees. Sending out a message that is tailored to a specific client or employee will result in better comprehension and feedback. Doing what is convenient here, doesn’t mean it is necessarily best.

March 9th, 2010In today’s fast paced society convenience is key. No one has time to waste. Advancements in technology have allowed us to grow accustomed to getting the answers to our questions in the here and now. Whether it be getting online pricing, photos, instructions, music, movies, you name it, it’s available at the click of a button. Companies cannot afford to overlook convenience these days, or they will be overlooked. It is not considered a perk anymore, it is expected. The to-do list of consumers endlessly grows and anyway that companies can same them time, money and energy will be appreciated.
Rule of Thumb
March 8th, 2010The Pareto rule is a common rule of thumb for marketing in business. It’s based around the idea that 80 percent of a brand’s sales come from 20 percent of its customers. Now this may not be exactly specific to your company but it’s good to know that for the bulk of companies, the majority of sales come from a minority of the customers. This holds true due to heavy users and companies thinking in terms of ‘share of wallet,’ which is a percentage of a customer’s spending for a particular brand in a given product category. If a company has a better understanding of the relationships consumers have with the brands they use, they can more effectively target the brand advocates of their business and aim to increase levels of customer loyalty.

Shine It Up
March 2nd, 2010Out with the old and in with the new. It’s a common phrase said among some of these posts previously as well. But make sure what you’re throwing out really is old and pas it prime and doesn’t just need a little bit of help to bring it back to its days of glory. For examples, old wooden furniture full of its nicks and scratches can be sanded, smoothed and slapped with a new coat of paint to leave it looking brand new. Ask yourself if something can be fixed or improved with simply some fresh paint and a new shine, or is it really a lost cause? Unfortunately money doesn’t grow on trees, so upgrade when possible, but add a little elbow grease into the mix and modernize many of the pieces you currently have in order to adapt them to you always changing imagination.
Satisfaction
February 26th, 2010It’s funny how things we are satisfied with change. In the middle of summer, we are satisfied with 78 degree days and in the middle of winter we are satisfied with 35 degree days…for a while at least! You can get so used to something that after so long, the slightest improvement leaves us satisfied. Many times, when it comes to your home, you have these ambitious ideas for what you plan to do to make your home or a room something great. Yet, time passes and for a multitude of reasons, that change never happens. After a while, a new coat of paint or some fresh flowers added to the room is enough to leave us satisfied with what we have for a while longer. I challenge you to step back and ask yourself, is satisfied good enough? Why not make that home-improvement change you’ve always imaged would be great? That’s why there’s “spring break” after all, a person can only be satisfied with 35 degrees for so long. How much longer are you willing to wait, to go from satisfied to overall impressed?
